Good-morning!
As you know I’m taking private art classes. My instructor is constantly assessing my artwork and commenting on how I approach the work. Her comments make me feel as though I’m in some sort of therapy.
Last week I chose this beautiful picture that I wanted to paint. I’ll upload a picture of it for you later. It’s a night scene–it has rocks, mountains, water and a few trees. The trees only have a few leaves. Most of the painting is purple which incidentally is my favourite colour. Any way, I worked on the painting during last week’s class and then brought it home to do some work on it. My painting wasn’t exactly like the picture so I tried painting it on a second canvas. My second attempt was worse then my first attempt. Nevertheless I brought both paintings to this week’s class.
We worked on the first painting. When we were almost finished. She demonstrated how to paint leaves and then left me to paint the rest. When she came back she said I should get some clean water. As I re-entered the room I saw her scrubbing off the leaves I had painted. It was quite the sight. She was so intent on taking them off. It was hilarious. Instead of laughed I decided not to say any thing. After a long silence she told me that I always stopped working when things didn’t turn out exactly the way I wanted. She is right. I stop so I can assess the situation and then decide what to do next. While I’m thinking she usually says something like, “It’s a happy mistake.” Her comments made me realize that regardless of what happens on the canvas I need to embrace the painting. The objective of art is not to copy exactly what is in the picture but to use it as inspiration to create your own piece of work.
This morning I looked at the finished piece and although it did not look like the picture it was ok. I’ll upload a picture later.
My yoga instructor always reminds the class to set an intention before every class. As I paint today, my intention is to embrace my work.
All the best!

Inukshuk: my third painting
Hi!
Yahoo!!! I completed my third painting today. I intend to frame it.
The painting is of an Inukshuk. It’s an Inuit word meaning “in the image of man”. Originally built as landmarks to aid in navigation and to assist in caribou hunting, the Inukshuk has been adopted as a symbol to remind us of our dependence on each other and the value of strong relationships.
I’ve attached a picture of my painting. (It seems that the top section of the painting was cut off somehow.)

Looking forward to hearing what you think.
All the best!
Josephine
P.S. Rajinie, my instructor suggested I tell people that I will take orders. :)
The Ster Family
A few weeks ago I created a bed-time story for my kids. I decided to turn the story into a children’s book and have re-written the first paragraph several times. Can’t seem to get it right. Will keep you posted.
In case you’re wondering. I’m still waiting to hear back about the other story I sent for consideration.
All the best!
Josephine
